WINES

The wine that comes from the rare variety of “benjami” or benjamino, a variety, brought by the Venetians in 1684, is cultivated in the municipalities of Sfakiotes, Karya, Apolonion and Ellomenos at an altitude of 200m to 700m and is considered one of the best varieties at our country. Other varieties of lefkaditian wine are black and sweet wine. In Lefkas we produce white and red wines and the grape variety “Vardeas” is one of the most cultivated and in demand.

HONEY

Honey from thyme with a unique wonderful flavour and clear texture is produced in the South Lefkas Mountains of Athani ahd Dragano since this is the place where tyme herb is found and grown. The main characteristics of thyme honey are its aroma and its excellent, silky flavour.

MANOTOLATO - PASTELI

Mantolato and pasteli are two eminently traditional products of our island and their roots lie far back in history. The materials used to manufacture the pasteli are sesame, honey, sugar and almond.

Mantolato is made from honey, sugar, almond, the egg white, gulgose and ostia (a mixture of water and flour).
In our town mantolato and pasteli were initially by bakers exclusively.

SOUMADA

Soumada is one white creamy refreshment served in happy events. Made from almonds or bitter almonds, this drink served in weddings and engagements and was the favorite of women. Apart from it’s the role as a drink served in happy events, soumada was also a popular soft drink in coffee shops and patisseries, especially for women and children.

LIQUEUR

The local liqueur distilleries produce a great variety of flavors such as banana, mint, rose, carnation, etc. and also the traditional liqueur of Lefkada, the rozoli, which complements the wide variety of liqueurs. With it’s amazing aromatic flavor and digestive properties it is an ideal aperitif for every private moment and every social event.

OIL

Olives (Asprolia, Mavrolia) The Asprolia is a local traditional variety with relatively large wrist and it extends in the largest area of Lefkada where extra virgin olive oil is produced.

OIL PIE - COOKIES OIL

The traditional sweet of LEFKADA is the oil pie. In the old days they used to offered in weddings, baptisms and generally in any event happening in the family, even in sad moments.

Traditional, soft and fluffy buns which have a sweet scent. Many bakeries do the drying process after the first baking in order to keep it fresh for a long time, like cookies, without become moldy.

SALAMI

The salami and air sausage of Lefkada have a long history and they are unique products of charcuterie and it has been established for every product to be called “brand Lefkada.” The salami of Lefkada, with slight flavor of garlic and whole peppercorns, was exported many years ago.

LENTILS OF EGLOUVI

The famous lentils of Eglouvi cultivated in the region of Eglouvi in Lefkada, at an altitude of 800m to 1000m. Its cultivation follows a traditional way, without pesticides and it is tedious and time consuming. It is a product with excellent characteristics concerning taste and boil.
Seeds of lentils of Eglouvi kept at the International Centre for Agricultural Research in ICARDA at the subsoil in Syria, along with other precious seeds.

EMBROIDERY OF KARIA

The embroidery of Karya is very famous, made with a special technique, not known to any other region of Greece. The embroidery of Karia, the famous "Karsaniki stitch" is an embroidery technique completely different from every other stitch in Greece and beyond. It is a conception and creation of the women of Karya from which woman its name came from.
